Manas Mangaonkar

Associate Software Engineer

SAP (Labs research division)

Biography

Hello! I'm Manas, a software engineer looking to transition into product management roles, with a keen interest in data-intensive software products that aim to improve human lives, hybrid and private cloud platform products, and everything SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS. Some of my other interests include hardware hacking, security, data privacy, and DIY electronics (I recently built a home cockpit for video games).

Currently, I am a software engineer working at SAP Labs India (SAP's research division) with the sovereign and private cloud team. My professional journey started with open source; I was a contributor to Fedora (a Red Hat project). During the summers of 2019 and 2020, I was selected for the highly competitive Google Summer of Code program to work as a paid summer intern at Fedora (2019), where I built a data cross-synchronization platform from the ground up, and at Ciru (2020), where I developed container image serialization and deserialization mechanisms and transportation algorithms.

Outside of my work, as a student, I was also a GitHub Campus Expert. I was selected from a pool of 10,000+ applicants by GitHub to build a tech and hackathon culture in the western regions of India. I strived to build diverse and inclusive communities to learn technical skills, collaborate on projects, and share experiences. Through this platform, I not only introduced but also empowered and enabled hundreds of students from diverse backgrounds to explore promising technology domains and learning opportunities.

I also organized collaborative events such as hackathons and ideathons in partnership with GitHub across multiple states in India. I enabled students to step outside the constraints of outdated Indian college curricula and take their careers into their own hands.

I also established the first tech club and organized the first-ever hackathon on my college’s campus, starting a culture of hacking and innovation.

I have mentored students 1:1 and continue to mentor some of the most brilliant students to excel in their careers.
